FREDERICKSBURG, VA – United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 054-25-11, will be holding its annual flotilla elections during their regular business meeting on November 9th.
“Each year, before December 15th, the flotilla elects the next Flotilla Commander and Vice Flotilla Commander,” said Howard Thompson, Human Resources Officer. He further explained that “the Flotilla Commander provides the primary leadership and supervision to the flotilla, while the Vice Flotilla Commander has the responsibility for unit administration and coordination between staff members, essentially, the Chief of Staff for the flotilla.”
Pictured is Charles Hurley, the current Flotilla Commander. “For the past several months we’ve been recruiting new members to join our flotilla,” said Hurley. “During our October membership event, I was excited to see eight potential new members in attendance. In the past three weeks, we’ve added two new members to the flotilla, and are processing the paperwork on one more.”
In addition to the elections, the flotilla membership will be discussing their participation in the upcoming Fredericksburg Christmas Parade, held on December 2nd in downtown Fredericksburg. This year, they’ll be decorating their 27’ patrol boat, with many Auxiliarists wearing their life jackets to promote boating safety (and for some added warmth).
Additionally, the Fredericksburg Boat Show committee will be established, to coordinate staffing and participation in the annual show, held January 19-21, at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center.
